AnthropologicalВ ResearchВ MethodsВ

AnthropologyВ isВ aВ fieldВ ofВ scienceВ whichВ attemptsВ toВ understandВ theВ pastВ andВ presentВ biologicalВ andВ culturalВ differencesВ amongВ variousВ populationsВ (Haviland, В Prins, В Walrath, В & В McBride, В 2008). В AnthropologyВ involvesВ multipleВ researchВ methods. В TheseВ includeВ historicalВ analysisВ andВ participantВ observationВ (Trueman, В C., В n. deb. ). В ResearchВ MethodВ One: В ParticipantВ ObservationВ

One method of research in Anthropology is participant observation,  often referred to as field research.  The anthropologist either lives among or spends a substantial amount of time observing,  even participating in the lives of those being studied in their natural habitat,  in order to determine key components of an individual culture (Trueman,  C.,  n. d. ).  This allows the researcher to better understand how shared ideas,  values,  and perceptions came to be,

andВ howВ itВ

hasВ resultedВ inВ aВ culture'sВ sharedВ behaviours, В feelings, В andВ activities, В amongВ otherВ traitsВ specificВ toВ individualВ societiesВ andВ culturesВ (Haviland, В Prins, В Walrath, В & В McBride, В 2008). В JustificationВ

AВ qualitativeВ researchВ method, В participantВ observationВ isВ aВ keyВ componentВ inВ anthropologicalВ research. В ItВ allowsВ theВ researcherВ toВ observeВ andВ participateВ inВ theВ livesВ ofВ thoseВ beingВ studied. В ThisВ allowsВ theВ researcherВ toВ collectВ dataВ andВ drawВ conclusionsВ byВ observingВ theВ nuancesВ onlyВ anВ insiderВ wouldВ beВ privyВ to. В ItВ providesВ aВ lookВ intoВ theВ everydayВ livesВ ofВ thoseВ beingВ studied, В anВ importantВ partВ ofВ understandingВ howВ culturesВ formВ andВ howВ differencesВ betweenВ culturesВ occur. В

ResearchВ MethodВ Two: В HistoricalВ AnalysisВ

HistoricalВ AnalysisВ isВ anotherВ methodВ ofВ researchВ employedВ byВ anthropologists. В HistoricalВ analysisВ allowsВ theВ researcherВ toВ studyВ aВ culture'sВ oralВ andВ writtenВ histories, В accountsВ fromВ explorers, В missionaries, В andВ traders, В asВ wellВ asВ throughВ historicalВ documentsВ andВ recordsВ (Haviland, В Prins, В Walrath, В & В McBride, В 2008). В ByВ comparingВ aВ culture'sВ pastВ withВ theВ sameВ cultureВ asВ itВ isВ currently, В allowsВ researchersВ toВ betterВ understandВ howВ changeВ occursВ overВ time. В ThisВ allowsВ theВ researcherВ toВ formВ aВ better, В moreВ educatedВ theory. В В SociologicalВ ResearchВ MethodsВ

SociologyВ isВ definedВ asВ theВ scientificВ studyВ ofВ humanВ societyВ andВ socialВ interactionsВ (Tischler, В 2011). В UnlikeВ anthropology, В whichВ studiesВ allВ aspectВ ofВ humanityВ includingВ pastВ culturesВ andВ societies, В asВ wellВ asВ biologicВ evolution, В sociologyВ focusesВ onВ humanВ societyВ andВ socialВ relationships. В AmongВ otherВ things, В theВ fieldВ ofВ sociologyВ attemptsВ toВ understandВ whyВ certainВ eventsВ occurВ inВ society, В suchВ asВ crime, В asВ wellВ asВ theВ sociologicalВ effectsВ ofВ aging, В andВ howВ economicsВ affectВ aВ society'sВ crimeВ rate. В В

ResearchВ MethodВ One: В SurveyВ

OneВ methodВ ofВ researchВ isВ byВ surveyingВ aВ population, В orВ aВ sampleВ ofВ aВ population. В ParticipantsВ areВ givenВ aВ surveyВ orВ questionnaireВ toВ complete, В orВ areВ interviewedВ faceВ toВ faceВ byВ research workers. В SurveysВ revealВ importantВ factsВ aboutВ theВ individualВ inВ termsВ ofВ whatВ isВ beingВ studied. В OneВ suchВ surveyВ isВ theВ NielsenВ survey, В whichВ asksВ participantsВ toВ answerВ questionsВ aboutВ theirВ televisionВ viewingВ habits. В TheВ dataВ collectedВ isВ thenВ usedВ toВ informВ advertisersВ andВ televisionВ marketsВ aboutВ aВ population'sВ preferencesВ andВ viewingВ habitsВ (Tischler, В 2011). В ManyВ surveysВ areВ quantitativeВ researchВ methodsВ asВ theyВ oftenВ collectВ dataВ fromВ aВ largeВ amountВ ofВ respondents, В whichВ isВ thenВ analyzedВ viaВ mathematicalВ algorithmsВ (Trueman, В C., В n. d. ). В В

AnswersВ givenВ duringВ aВ survey, В questionnaire, В orВ interviewВ canВ helpВ formВ aВ pictureВ ofВ theВ socialВ andВ economicВ factorsВ affectingВ aВ givenВ populationВ atВ oneВ pointВ inВ time. В ByВ comparingВ changesВ inВ variablesВ overВ time, В surveysВ givenВ toВ theВ sameВ respondentsВ overВ aВ periodВ ofВ timeВ canВ provideВ insightВ asВ toВ whyВ aВ respondent'sВ behavioursВ orВ opinionsВ ofВ aВ givenВ topicВ mayВ changeВ...
