Characters are often from divine ancestry, and are known for their achievements of courage and nobility of purpose. Often a main character is someone who has risked, or even sacrificed their very own life. Billy Budd, Sailor man, by Herman Melville, is made up of one main character named Billy Budd, the " angel of God" (1906). Claggart and Chief Vere contain some of the heroic characteristics, nonetheless Billy is the singe character that gets all of the qualities of a leading man, and therefore is considered the most qualified to fill that position. Although Melville strains to put a lot of heroic remise within every character with the story, Billy is the most dominant of all who have are described. Thus, Billy Budd is a one the case hero within the entire story.

Only a cursed spirit, such as Claggart, would be able to convict a person that is so naГЇve and pure or cardiovascular system, like Billy Budd.

Although his decision determines the outcome of the book, Captain Vere is not a more of a Leading man than Claggart. Vere seems to stand by his values because he took a great oath if he went into any office and stands beside his pledge for the entire story, under no circumstances faltering.
